Unsung Heroes

When an incredible act of bravery occurs in our local community we usually get to hear about it on the TV or the radio – a baby is rescued from a burning building, a swimmer in difficulty is saved, a passerby doesn’t pass by but rather stays to help.

But what about the other heroes? The unsung heroes. I would like to give a shout out to those people.

The mums and dads raising their children to be good people.

The man who goes to work in a brain numbing job just to keep a roof over the head of his family.

The woman who bites her lip as the step children test the boundaries again because she loves their father and wants to make it work.

The boss who knows his employee is late because she has a sick spouse to look after.

The colleague who buys chocolate for the person next to them who is having a bad day.

The child who shares their toys because their friend doesn’t have any.

The teacher who gives up their free time to help a child study.

The gifted musician who helps those less talented to find their way.

The teen who decides not to join a gang.

The kids who know it’s not cool to do drugs.

The neighbour who helps out.

The stranger who gives up their seat on the train.

The guy in the supermarket queue who ushers you ahead of him because you have less items in your basket.

The teens who decide to leave the knives at home.

The good Samaritan who smiles at the person who needs it the most.

To the workers who get up every morning when the alarm clock goes off.

To those who go out to work in the dark and come home in the dark.

To everyone who finds the energy after a long day to make a home cooked meal.

To you and I for doing it all and keeping it real.
